Apollo Bay
On the day we headed for Apollo Bay, Melbourne was baking in 38 degree heat but by
the time we hit Apollo bay it was a more comfortable 26 degrees. Towing a
caravan around the Great Ocean Road is a challenge in it’s own right, making it
without the kids getting car sick is a miracle! Well we made it all in one
piece with windows down all the way, plenty of fresh air and going along slowly
plenty of things to look at.
Returning to Apollo Bay where Jim lived for 3 years and played footy for 5 years
in the 80’s as well as the place where
Jim and Chrissy met 24 years earlier, was exciting especially with family in tow. Once again we were the guests
of Andrew and Kim Bazell and we had a great time catching old friends including
Trish Goodlet who bought Chrissy to Apollo Bay in 1988. We had a great night catching up with friends
at a BBQ and of course in true Apollo Bay style it finished a little too late
and some people were a little tired the next morning.

Ballarat
A two hour drive north saw us arrive in Ballarat the
historic gold mining town. Luckily for
us the city was hit the night before by ferocious storms leaving widespread
damage. The main reason for our visit was to go to Sovereign Hill which is a
living 1850’s museum. We enjoyed our
time there, successfully panning for gold, taking mine tours, candle making, enjoying the buildings, the street theatre and
most importantly the boiled lolly shop! All lollies are hand made at Sovereign Hill. We also could not forget the old time bowling
alley which was a hit, especially with Will.
Ballarat an interesting place to visit but it always is ,
was and forever shall be potentially freezing, no matter what time of the year
you visit. So always pack something warm.

Jordy stumped on the Barrell puzzle. After buying it he solved it eventually.
Our favourite, Rasperry drops being made.
