Fitzroy Crossing to Kunnunurra.
The drive from Derby to Fitzroy Crossing is not a
particularly exciting one but there is always something new to see. The giant
boab tree at Willare has people lining up to have their photos taken beside it.
It is interesting to note as you drive through the Kimberley that when clearing
the sides of roads all sorts of trees are knocked over but rarely boabs.

Fitzroy Crossing has the mighty Fitzroy River flowing
through it, Geike Gorge just out of town
and a dam fine IGA store that defies belief. All perishable food is in a
separate cold storage room that you enter and eventually freeze inside of. Great to see a store that all the travellers
rave about. It also has a very nice caravan park, The Fitzroy River Lodge
Caravan park is built on a grassy flood plain with all amenities 5+ metre above
the sites. The park closes for the wet and braces for the mighty Fitzroy to
possibly burst its banks. Some of the stations near the river have some great grazing conditions even well into the dry season.

Geike Gorge is 20km out of town and we went on an 8am cruise
to view the sights and the wildlife. The
scenery was quite spectacular and there was plenty of birdlife and freshwater
crocodiles on show. The tour was very relaxing and lovely in the early morning.
All aboard!
Geike Gorge.
From there we were on the road for Spring Creek rest area
about 380km away. Once again the boys loved free camping . Will hooked up with
a buddy from Derby, whilst Kurt took some Swiss boys looking for firewood.

The next mornings drive saw us heading towards Kunnunurra. The
scenery became more scenic as we progressed, and the colour of the ranges as we
neared Kunnunurra was quite spectacular.

Tomorrow, off to Home Valley Station, Yeeha
